Our Housing Office has an online housing database for UWA international students who have been offered a place but not yet enrolled.
There is information on how to create an account and access the database before you enrol. The Office verifies you have been made an offer and gives you access to the database.
Off-campus accommodation offers you the choice of shared accommodation, renting or full-board options.
This can be an apartment, unit or house, either sharing with other students or the property owner. You will usually have your own room, either furnished or unfurnished, with the use of the facilities.
Costs range from AUD$120 to $175 a week, depending on how many people are sharing, its proximity to the University and whether it is furnished. Other costs such as electricity, gas, telephone rental and food are usually shared..
You can rent or lease your own apartment, unit or house, either on your own or with friends. This involves signing a lease for between six and twelve months. The closer to the University, the more expensive the is. Cheaper accommodation can be found further from the campus, but there is increased transport costs and travelling time.
An unfurnished one-bedroom apartment can cost between AUD$200 - $300 per week. An unfurnished two- or three-bedroom apartment would be in the range of $300 - $400 per week, depending on location. There are also establishment costs of two weeks rent in advance, four weeks' rent as bond, a letting fee (one week's rent), a stamp duty fee (if rent is more than AUD$125 a week), and connection fees for electricity, gas and telephone.
Often called 'homestay', students stay with families or individuals. You have your own furnished bedroom and the use of the other family living areas. Bathroom facilities are often shared. Full board normally includes most meals together with the cost of electricity, gas and water. You pay separately for telephone calls.
- Visit the UWA Housing Office
- Consult Perth's daily newspaper online
- Contact local real estate agents
- Look at suburbs or facilities close to the campus that are important to you.
- If you are coming from overseas or out of state, we recommend you come at least two weeks (probably longer for the February intake) before orientation to allow yourself time to find accommodation.
- You will need temporary accommodation if you are going to come to Perth to search for accommodation.
- It is a very good idea to bring references (in English) with you, as home owners and real estate agents often require these for your rental application.
