Course prerequisites

To apply for some courses at UWA you require a certain level of background knowledge in some areas.

This background knowledge is called a prerequisite.  In most cases you must achieve a scaled score of 50 or more in a specific WA Certificate of Education course  to be considered for a course which lists it as prerequisite.

Other qualifications may be also used to demonstrate the required level of knowledge.

Everyone entering UWA must also demonstrate competence in English.

Where do I find prerequisite information?

Prerequisites are outlined in the course information pages and the UWA Undergraduate Courses Guides (prospectuses) for Australian and International Students.

For WA Certificate of Education students in Year 10, 11 and 12, prerequisites are published by the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre for each admission year.

Other qualifications

If you have completed one of the following qualifications, our subject equivalence tables will help you determine if you meet the prerequisites for your preferred course.

  • High school certificate in another Australian state
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement
  • GCE A-levels
  • United States College Board Advanced Placement subjects

If you are applying for a place based on qualifications other than those listed you need to demonstrate that you have knowledge at least equivalent to the WACE subjects specified. You may need to provide syllabus information for these courses.

Maths competency test

For students who have met all the entry requirements for their course except mathematics there is the Maths Competency Test.
