The UWA Prospective Students Office provides a number of services to ensure that all secondary school students have an opportunity to find out about courses, admissions, subject selection, lifestyle, accommodation, student services accommodation options and much more at UWA. Appointment times between April and September fill very quickly so book in early to avoid disappointment.
School Visits
School visits can be in the form of talks to groups of students, parent information evenings or career expos. If there are additional aspects about university or UWA you would like us to discuss in our presentation, let us know so we are able to tailor a presentation to suit your students' needs.
Year 11 and 12 Students
Talks to Year 11 and 12 students include general information about admission to university in addition to specific details relating to The University of Western Australia. Year 11 and 12 talks typically cover the following points:
Student Diversity Programs
Residential College Accommodation
These presentations usually require one hour in order to cover all the important aspects of UWA study, admissions and lifestyle. Talks are best aimed at tertiary-bound students; however, we also welcome students who do not intend to study at UWA. It may also be useful to allocate time for individual consultations after the main presentation.
Year 10 Students
Talks to Year 10 students include general information about admission to university with some detail on the courses available at UWA. The basic year 10 presentation answers the following questions:
Year 10 talks generally require 45 minutes with additional time for questions.
Parent Information Sessions
Parent information sessions are an effective way to inform parents of important information such as upper school subject selection and university admission requirements. The most commonly requested model offers parents three 30-minute time slots in which to attend three talks from a choice of various institutions at the one event.
Career Expos
Career Expos have become an increasing popular choice for many career advisers. While we attend a variety of expos, we have found that the most successful events are those that are, where possible:
Please contact the Prospective Students Office to discuss your requirements if you plan to hold an expo in 2008.
Campus Tours
Both country schools planning a visit to Perth and metropolitan schools looking for an excursion are welcome to bring their students onto the UWA campus. Our campus tours can include:
As our campus guides are currently studying at UWA, your students are provided with a unique perspective of life at university. General tours of the university require at least one hour and tours that involve departmental activities and tours of the residential colleges require 2-3 hours.
Please call the Prospective Students Office at least four weeks in advance to arrange your campus tour.
Counselling
Individual students and their parents are encouraged to make appointments to see an adviser from the Prospective Students Office if they feel they would benefit from a personal consultation. Please call us at least a week in advance to book your appointment.
Country Visits
The schedule for visiting country schools is worked out in consultation with the other tertiary institutions. The following regions are visited each year:
If your school is located in one of these regions we will contact you personally to ask whether you would like us to visit your school. However, please do not hesitate to initiate contact with us to organise your school visit, particularly if you are from a school that is not located within one of these regions.
