Advanced Science

The Bachelor of Science (Advanced Science Program) gives students the opportunity to work together on group projects and gain early experience in research and research management.

There are opportunities for a range of industrial placements, as well as political and governmental agency internships.

High-performing science students will find the program a challenging and rewarding experience, with the option of fast-tracking to complete your Honours degree in three and a half years.

This program allows high-achieving students to study science in a wider social context, and the opportunity to accelerate their course by going straight into Level 2 units where appropriate.

Besides completing two science majors, students work on group projects and gain early experience in research and research management. The program includes an overseas placement.

Level 1

At Level 1 you will complete a foundation package in your broad area of interest (physical sciences, earth sciences, biological sciences, human and behavioural sciences, or mathematics and computer sciences) in addition to a group project.

Level 2 and 3

In Levels 2 and 3, you will complete two science majors from those below:

You will also complete a research project and a placement in a university overseas.

To continue the program and to qualify for the award you must achieve a weighted average of at least 80 per cent at Level 1 and 2. Entry into Honours requires a weighted average of at least 75 per cent in the units forming the relevant science majors and the Level 3 research project.

The degree is awarded with Honours, which you complete in your fourth year (enriched program).

The accelerated program allows you to complete the degree (including Honours) in 3.5 years, in selected majors.
