Human Resource Management

Human Resource Management explores how the proper management of employees contributes towards organisational effectiveness.

This major presents both the basis of human resource management in theory and research, and the practical problems and issues arising in human resource management in Australia and the international arena.  Areas of study include organisational behaviour, industrial law, human resource planning, recruitment and selection, human performance and management, training and development, employee wellbeing, international and strategic human resources management.

Human Resource Management can be studied as a major in the Bachelor of Commerce, associated combined degrees and as a second major in the Bachelor of Economics.

Level 1 Core Units
ACCT1101 Financial Accounting
ECON1101 Microeconomics: Prices & Markets
STAT1520 Economic & Business Statistics

Additional Prerequisite Units
MGMT1135 Organisational Behaviour
MGMT1136 Management and Organisations

Levels 2 and 3 Core Units

Levels 2 and 3 Option Units

Business Law Minor
There is no Law major available to students within the Business School. However, a comprehensive Business Law minor is available which complements the other majors, and offers excellent commercial skills. Four units at Levels 2/3 are required to complete this minor.

Career opportunities

Graduates will be able to pursue a career in human resource management or employee relations.  Studies in human resource management prepare the student for a career in the human resource function of both private- and public-sector organisations, and provide a valuable adjunct to other areas of management.
