Analysing data on a computer

The selection process for dentistry and non-graduate entry into medicine (for both normal and bonded places) has three components.

They are:

  1. Academic performance
  2. The Undergraduate Medical Admissions Test (UMAT)
  3. A structured interview

Final ranking is based on performance in the UMAT, interview and TER and will be weighted 1:2:2 respectively.

Applicants must meet a minimum threshold in each of the three areas to remain in contention for a place.

Assessed criteria two Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test

The Undergraduate Medical Admissions Test (UMAT) is a two-and-a-half hour, multiple-choice test designed to measure skills and qualities necessary for success as a doctor or dentist that might not necessarily be reflected in purely academic tests, such as critical thinking and problem solving, interactions with others, and abstract non-verbal reasoning.

Applications for this test are separate from the applications to study medicine or dentistry. The test is held once a year in July.

Online registration normally opens in April and closes in early June.

A UMAT score no more than two years old is essential to be considered for entry to medicine and dentistry courses at UWA.  Applicants who sat UMAT in both 2008 and 2009 can select which score they want used for their application for 2010 entry to medicine and dentistry.  Applicants in this situation will need to ensure that they enter the correct year's UMAT ID number on their TISC application.  Non Standard applicants will also need to ensure that they enter the correct UMAT ID number on the Faculty's online registration form.
