Special entry

Exceptional circumstances

The Appeals Group of the University's Admissions Committee considers cases where exceptional circumstances (not covered by the Curriculum Council's Sickness and Misadventure policy) have hindered your performance in the qualifications that form the basis of an application.

Extensive documentary evidence of the special circumstances is required, and must be submitted by 6 January 2009 for the main round of offers, or by 23 January 2009 for the second round of offers.

Your application for an appeal or request for special consideration should be marked as CONFIDENTIAL and sent to:

UWA Admissions Centre

Special entry schemes allow you to be considered for entry to UWA if your Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) is not sufficient for you to gain admission to a course.

Three special entry schemes are:

  1. UWay
  2. CountryWay
  3. Provisional Entry Scheme

UWay

You can apply for special entry to an undergraduate degree course through UWay if you are a Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE, or interstate equivalent) student – including those who are mature-aged – whose academic achievements have been adversely affected by certain disadvantages. Check out all the details of how UWay works, how to apply and application deadlines.

CountryWay

CountryWay allows students from rural high schools whose TER falls between 76.00 and UWA's minimum TER to be considered for a main round offer in the four-year courses:

Both are offered by the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

No application is required, as eligible students are automatically identified by the University.

Programs available include:

You will need to satisfy the mathematics prerequisite for the course and the University's English Language Competence requirement to be considered for CountryWay.

If you are eligible, you should disregard messages about eligibility for UWA that may appear on your Universities' Admissions Advice Letter (UAAL).

However, if you have not achieved a scaled score of 50 or more in English or English Literature, you should make urgent contact with the Admissions Centre once you receive your UAAL so we can authorise you to sit a second-chance English test.

Contact the Admissions Centre if you are at all uncertain about your eligibility or any of the details relating to CountryWay.

Provisional Entry Scheme

The Provisional Entry Scheme makes a number of places available to Indigenous students who have completed TEE but have:

  • not gained a sufficiently high TER to enter their preferred course
    or
  • who have a strong employment history and/or a good educational background.

The School of Indigenous Studies also offers an Aboriginal Orientation Course to prepare students for entry to most degree courses at UWA.

For more information, contact the School of Indigenous Studies.
