Mature-age entry provides flexibility for entering UWA, particularly if you don't have any previous academic results.
Anyone who is 20 or over on 1 March (for Semester One entry) or 1 August (for Semester Two entry) qualifies for our mature-age entry pathways.
Our admissions staff provide individual guidance to mature-age students to help you choose an entry pathway that's appropriate to the course in which you want to enrol.
The pathways are:
In this entry you essentially follow the same study program as a Year 12 student and have an ATAR calculated in the same way. You then compete for a place. As a mature-age student you are exempt from the school-leaver requirement to achieve the WA Certificate of Education. You need to demonstrate English Language Competence by obtaining a scaled mark of 50 or more in WACE English, Literature or English as an Additional Language/Dialect (for eligible students).
You must also satisfy any prerequisite subjects needed for admission to your desired course at UWA. Contact the Admissions Centre if you would like help in selecting appropriate WACE courses.
To be eligible the mature-age ATAR you will need to be 19 years or over on 1 March of that year (which means you will be 20 by 1 March in the year you enter university). This entry route requires students to undertake two WACE courses over one calendar year. An ATAR is based on results in the two subjects, and will be calculated only if you have taken both courses in the same year.
The University's English Language Competence requirement is satisfied by achieving a high-enough score in a UWA-approved test of English, such as a scaled score of 50 or more in WACE English, Literature or English as an Additional Language/Dialect; or via the Special Tertiary Admission Test (STAT).
If you are using STAT to satisfy English language competence, a minimum of 150 out of 200 in the multiple choice verbal component and a minimum of 145 out of 200 in the written English section is required. It is important that you choose your two courses carefully to make sure you meet any prerequisites. Contact the Admissions Centre to help you select appropriate subjects.
