Special Entry

UWA has special entry schemes which may allow you to be considered for entry even if your Tertiary Entrance Rank is lower than the cut-off.

Admission to the University of Western Australia (UWA) is very competitive. There are always more applicants than there are places available.

As a result, the minimum academic standards required for entry to the various courses are high. These requirements ensure that everyone who enters UWA shares the same fundamental level of knowledge and skills necessary to enable you to do well in your studies, and enjoy your time at UWA.

What you need to do:

  1. achieve UWA's requirement for English language competence
  2. demonstrate academic performance by obtaining a sufficiently high score for entry to UWA
  3. satisfy any prerequisites (Please note that music, undergraduate medicine and dentistry and graduate entry medicine have some additional requirements)

WA school leavers must also meet the requirements for the WA Certificate of Education (WACE) prescribed by the Curriculum Council.

Students from other Australian states and New Zealand, and students who have completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma, GCE A-levels or US Advanced Placement subjects, will compete for a place in the same way as a WA school-leaver (provided you have never undertaken any tertiary study, and you completed your secondary study within five years of seeking admission).

From 2011, the University of Western Australia will be introducing a TER (ATAR) bonus for WA Certificate of Education students who complete a language other than English in Year 12.
