Master’s by research is a supervised degree that includes a thesis.
A master's thesis must be a substantial work, generally based on independent research, that shows:
- sound knowledge of the research subject
- evidence of independent thought
- ability to use clear and concise language.
UWA offers several master’s degree by research courses:
- Master’s degrees by thesis and coursework – a thesis represents 66.6 per cent or more of the degree requirements. Administered by our faculties.
- Master’s degrees by research (thesis) – a thesis represents 100 per cent of the course requirements in this supervised research degree. Administered by the Graduate Research and Scholarships Office.
- Master’s degrees by research (creative work) – assessment is based on creative work only in this supervised research degree. Administered by the Graduate Research and Scholarships Office.
- Master’s degrees by research (thesis and creative work) – administered by the Graduate Research and Scholarships Office.
